The keypad on the smart lock blinks once and goes dark. The batteries have finally given up, your phone is at four percent, and the little backup key that came in the box is in a kitchen drawer on the other side of the door.

A deadbolt is only as strong as its installation. We bore the holes, set the bolt so it throws fully, back the strike with long screws into the framing, and line everything up so the door locks with two fingers instead of a shoulder.

The fix, explained · Aurora
The fix
The visit follows a steady order. On the phone you describe the door, the lock and where the key went, which tells the locksmith what to bring.
The fix
The end of a business lockout is a paper trail as well as an open door. You receive a plain written account of which door was opened, how, what condition the hardware was in, what was replaced, how many keys were cut and who took them.
The fix
A car key that breaks in the door or the ignition is handled with the same extraction tools, with one difference. On most vehicles the plastic head of the key carries the transponder chip and the remote buttons, and that half is usually intact in your hand.
The fix
In a rental or condo the repair involves more than one set of hands. A tenant reports the break-in to the landlord or property manager, who normally arranges the work, because landlords are responsible for repairs and both sides have rules about changing locks and sharing keys.

The fix
Most seized locks can be saved, and keeping your existing hardware is the aim. A cylinder that has stopped turning is usually recoverable with cleaning and fresh internal parts.

The fix
If you rent, losing a key is handled in three steps rather than one. Tell your landlord first, since a lock change on a rented unit goes smoother when both sides know about it and both end up with a working key.

Rekeying is the quiet workhorse of what we do. It keeps the lock you already have and simply changes which key operates it, which makes it the sensible answer after a move, a lost set, a tenant change or a contractor who kept a copy. We can usually bring several doors onto one key at the same visit, and we show you the old pins before we leave.
Time to understand first. We do not start work until you understand what we found. That might take two sentences or a longer chat; either is fine.
A quiet, careful approach. Locks are opened and fitted with patience rather than force wherever the design allows. Your door and frame matter as much as the lock.
Everything tested, everything explained. Before leaving we run through each lock and key with you, show you anything new and leave a note of what was done.

Security should feel like a settled question, not a nagging one. These services exist to get you there: doors that lock without a wrestle, keys that only the right people hold, and hardware chosen for how you actually use the building rather than a catalogue picture.

We check how deep the fragment sits and whether the cylinder was already worn or dry. That tells us how to draw the piece out without pushing it further.

Drawing the piece out. With extraction tools and patience the broken blade comes out whole. We clean and lubricate the cylinder so the next key goes in smoothly.
Cutting a fresh key. A key that snapped was usually tired. We cut a new one from the two halves or from the lock itself, test it and suggest retiring any other worn copies.

22%
Newer homes. About 22% of homes in Aurora were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.
Households in newer homes are often keen on keypads, fobs and phone-controlled locks. Standard doors make installation straightforward, and the locksmith spends more of the visit setting codes and pairing devices than on carpentry.
60%
Mostly houses. Single-detached houses make up about 60% of homes in Aurora (2021 Census).
Garage entry doors on detached houses are often the household's real front door, used more than the formal entry. They deserve the same quality of lock, and keying them alike with the house means one key does the whole daily routine.
A restricted keyway uses a controlled key profile whose blanks are supplied only through an authorised channel; the credential required, a letter, a registered account, a dealer agreement or a key card, depends on the system. Rekeying such a cylinder is routine work with the right pin kit. For a household that has just lost a key and wants the next one to be truly countable, it is a sensible upgrade for the main doors, and it can be fitted during the same visit.
It asks; it does not compel. The stamp is a request that a key-cutting counter may or may not honour, and manufacturers say as much. Real control comes from a restricted keyway, whose blanks are issued only through authorised channels against a key card, or simply from knowing how many keys exist and who holds them. A rekey resets that count to a number you chose.
Usually, yes. Cylinders that share a keyway family accept the same blank, so they can be pinned to one combination during the rekey. The front door, back door, garage entry and a gate padlock of the same family become a single key. Where a door uses a different family, the locksmith can swap its cylinder for a compatible one in the same visit, or you can choose to keep two keys for that door.
Only light care. Use the dry lubricant the locksmith recommends once or twice a year, never oil, which gathers grit around the finger pins and sidebar. Keep the keyway free of debris and insert the key fully before turning. In winter, warm a resisting key in your hand or use a de-icer rather than forcing it. Check hinge and strike screws each season so the door stays aligned. Treated this way the cylinder lasts for decades.
